dr.Olga Parolková

She is a graduate of Charles University in Prague, where she received her doctor‘s degree. She studied Czech and Russian. She worked at a research institut of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences and later as a long time teacher at the State Language School in Prague.
She colaborated on several popular textbooks on Russian language. When she retired she decided to use her teaching experience to write a more modern textbook of Czech language for foreigners. Together with her colleague Jaroslava Novakova they wrote Czech For Foreigners. The textbook became soon very popular - and this was the beginning of Bohemika publishing.

Of course, Czech language is rather difficult due to many suffixes and endings. One can hardly conceal to the students, that each Czech noun has seven forms in singular and in plural (it declines more often than our society), that it has six forms for each verb in every tense etc. That is why the author uses some traditional methods in combination with the modern comunicative methods - one simply cannot avoid learning conjugation and declination when trying to master Czech. The picture appendix to the textbook represents a lot of help: using it you can learn the expressions used in daily life. The dialogs can be found on a tape, spoken by Czech actors in normal speed. So from the very beginning you just can listen to the language in its everyday use. There is a key to exercises in the textbook, and a set of test can be ordered as well. The illustrations are from well known Czech painters.
If you are a more advanced student, you can order Czech for Foreigners II, which will give you most of what you need to pass an exam in Czech language.

Many thanks for all your letters.
